FEPS members were delighted when the Mayor of Hillingdon, Councillor Shirley Harper-O'Neill
joined them on 21 September for the first digital competition of the new season. The visit was planned as
part of Hillingdon's Streets Ahead Week of Action from 19 - 25 September, focussing on the Ruislip area of the borough.
The judge for the evening was Peter Mylchreest of Imagez, a newcomer to FEPS. Peter selected "Variable Damselflies" by Derrick Leather as the winner of Class 1. The beautiful image (seen left) was taken by Derrick one June day at local nature reserve, Stocker's Lake. In choosing this image Peter recognised the difficulty of taking such close-up shots of these captivating insects.
Derrick was presented with his certificate by the Mayor, who was accompanied to the event by Councillor Brian Steadman.
The Mayor was only able to stay until the half time interval. After she had left the judging of the Class 2 images got underway. Peter selected an image of
a sales transaction in distant lands, Point of Sale by Richard Bell as the worthy winner.
Below is a gallery of the evening's other winning images.
Class 1, from left to right, second place Colourful Sunrise by Chris Wallace, third place Near and Distant Trees, also by Chris Wallace. Buckled Wheel by Gordon Philipps and Snowy Egret by Mike Walker were both highly commended.
Class 2, second place Flowing Water by Peter Trowell, third place Waterloo Bridge by Brian Hillier. Summer Holidays by David Langman was highly commended.
